Traditional clothes of soheili women, a combination of colors and patterns

The traditional clothes of Soheili village are all handmade and are a combination of Indian, Persian and African customs. This dress consists of several different parts of kandur or kandura, pants with special needlework, a colorful scarf called lisso (lacy), a traditional burqa mask (burqa) and a traditional Chida mat. Some women add golden accessories to their mask and give it a special effect. In the wedding ceremony, instead of lacey, a soft scarf with a bracelet called “Jelvi” is used.

Kandoora

Kandoora shirt is one of the main clothing of women in Soheili Qeshm village. This close front shirt has a round collar and the fabric is light and thin. Therefore, condora, which is also called Gandora in Spanish, is compatible with the weather conditions of this region and is usually sewn in warm and happy colors such as red, purple, green, magenta, pink, orange, yellow and rarely turquoise blue.

It is interesting to know that this dress is common among the people of the south of the country, but the Kandoora shirt in Qeshm Island is more similar to the Arab shirts of the Persian Gulf countries, and for this reason, it is sewn wider and longer.

Bandari pants

Among other different clothing of Soheili Qeshm women, there is a beautiful pair of pants, which is also known as Bandari pants or tight flip flops pants. These pants have a tight hem and the top is wide and rhomboid. Its top is usually closed with an elastic band or a strong cloth, and the soles are slit to the inside of the foot for easy wearing, and then the slit is closed with a zipper or button.

These pants have the same shape and image in all of Hormozgan province, and what distinguishes them from each other is the type of decorations that are used in the hem of the pants. Bandari trousers are usually decorated with different methods such as full bodice, hand two-piece, wheeled two-piece, sequined, fringed, serpache, glabtoni, khos langeh, satin two-piece, and cotton.

Bandari trousers are usually made of fabrics such as tetron, poplin and chit, and if used in parties and weddings, this cover is sewn with thick and zari fabrics such as atlas, zarbaft and satin.

Bandari tent

Some women of Soheili Qeshm village prefer to wear bandari veil over their traditional dress. This beautiful cover is made of thin and delicate fabrics, mostly in brown, mustard and blue-gray colors. Of course, for weddings or weddings, the green silk flower tent or the simple green Sofen tent with Khus and Glabton decorations and sequins is used.

Southern women tie the Bandari tent in two different ways, la nimla or kool.

  • In the la-nimla method, one side of the tent is thrown over their shoulders and the other side is left free.
  • In the Kool method, one side of the tent is wrapped around the head and the other end is left in the ear area

Orni

Orni is a type of silk scarf decorated with small and large flowers, bete jakeh and almond flowers. These designs are embroidered on silk fabric with various sequins and gold and silver threads. Southern women tie Oroni in the form of a kol. In this way, they wrap one side of it around the head and leave the other side on the chest.

Borqae

Burqa or face covering is a kind of hijab and decorative covering that women put on their face. This beautiful cover is not only religious, but has its roots in the ancient culture of the southern people and is one of the main parts of the traditional clothes of the women of Soheili Qeshm village. Burqa is available in different models and southern women use different models according to their position. For example, single women wear black burqas and engaged women wear orange ones with bright designs.

The oldest model of the burqa is similar to a thick eyebrow or mustache that men put on their faces to be mistaken for men.

Another type of burqa is a rectangular covering. In this model, only the eyes are visible and women’s faces are protected from wind, sand and sun.
