About Hoori
Houri is a small wooden rowing boat made from a tree trunk with a flat bottom.
Since ancient times, it has been used by the native inhabitants of the Persian Gulf coasts for fishing. The capacity of a Houri ranges from about 100 to 400 kilograms, depending on its size.
This boat is still used at the Soheili Village dock. Every season, Houri rowing competitions are held in the mangrove forest by the village council of Soheili, with valuable prizes awarded. The main goal of this cultural-sporting event is to encourage youth to use the Houri, enhance their skills, preserve cultural heritage, and boost vitality in the rural community.
