With the growth in the number of tourists, waste management had become a major challenge in this village. Today, however, we are witnessing the installation of separate bins for wet, dry, and recyclable waste in most centers. In this system, dry waste such as plastic, glass, and paper are transferred to recycling centers after collection. This measure not only prevents environmental pollution, but is also considered a suitable model for other tourist villages.
Mr. Mohsen Touli, Director of Dakhleh Ecotourism, says in this regard: In addition to reducing waste management costs, the implementation of the waste separation plan has been well received by guests. Today, tourists are looking for destinations that respect the environment and welcome these projects.
This initiative has also been accompanied by the participation of village women. Some of them, in cooperation with the resorts, hold workshops on converting dry waste into handicrafts, which both generate income and help reduce the volume of waste.
The village of Soheili, which is located in the heart of mountainous nature, has been able to prevent the destruction of natural landscapes and pollution of running waters by implementing this project. In addition to reducing the volume of waste landfilled, the separation of dry waste from wet waste has also reduced the consumption of natural resources.
Tourists are also actively participating in this project. Many guests help collect dry waste during their stay. Some resorts have created more incentives for guests to participate in nature cleanup programs by offering privileges such as discounts.
Future plans also include the development of composting systems for wet waste and the use of biodegradable containers in restaurants. These actions have made Soheili a successful model for responsible tourism.
In this way, Soheili Village has become not only a destination for ecotourism, but also a successful example of sustainable coexistence with the environment. This experience can also inspire other tourist villages in the country.
