Supporters of the Egyptian Vulture: Residents of Soheili Tourism Village and their efforts to protect the bird symbol of Qeshm Island
Qeshm Island, with its unique biodiversity, is considered one of the most important ecological areas in Iran. Among them, the Egyptian vulture, as one of the endangered species, is the symbol of the birds of this global island. Unfortunately, the decline in the population of this bird due to habitat destruction, illegal hunting and unwanted poisoning has caused great concern in the world. However, in the meantime, the residents of Soheili village, as active supporters of this bird, play an important role in its protection.
Located near the protected areas of Qeshm, Soheili village has always witnessed the presence of this bird due to its proximity to the natural habitats of the Egyptian vulture. The residents of this village, aware of the importance of the Egyptian vulture in the ecosystem of the region, have voluntarily participated in conservation projects. They have taken effective steps to preserve this species by reporting vulture sightings, preventing hunting and destruction of nests, and educating tourists.
In addition, educational and promotional programs have been carried out by the Environment Department and active NGOs in collaboration with villagers to remind locals and tourists of the importance of the Egyptian vulture as a key species in the food chain. These measures have not only increased public awareness, but also garnered more support for the implementation of conservation projects.
The efforts of the Soheili villagers show that the participation of local communities can play a decisive role in saving endangered species. With the continuation of these collaborations, it is hoped that the Egyptian vulture, this valuable symbol of Qeshm Island’s birds, will be preserved for future generations.
